    No puede negarse el hecho de que, a sus 89 años de edad, Miguel Martínez es el instrumentista de mayor trascendencia en toda la historia de la música de mariachi. No sólo marcó la pauta para la trompeta sola en el mariachi, sino que también definió y popularizó la modalidad de las dos trompetas dentro de este género musical.

    Houston based Vanessa Alonso performs in Paris, France this week with Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan and the Houston Grand Opera. The 1999 Mariachi Extravaganza, Best Mariachi Vocalist in the US, will be in San Antonio for the 17th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza November 27 - December 4.

The last day for Early registration is November 10, 2011. Late registration ends November 17, 2011. Absolutely no registrations will be accepted after November 17.

    Roswell, New Mexico will host its first ever Mariachi Extravaganza Friday, September 16 at 7 pm. The event will take place at the Pearson Auditorium. Tickets are priced at $25, $30 and $40 and can be purchased through the Roswell Symphony Orchestra or by phone at 575-623-5882. All proceeds benefit the Roswell Symphony Orchestra. Roswell's Mariachi Extravaganza is an MPR production (producers's of San Antonio's 17th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza).

    El lunes, 18 de julio de 2011, músicos de mariachi y miembros de la comunidad local se reunieron en la Plaza Garibaldi, México, DF, para llevar a cabo una protesta en contra de la apertura de una escuela de música que lleva por nombre Casa del Mariachi. Entre otras inconformidades, los manifestantes afirman que dicha escuela descaradamente subestima la música cuyo nombre ostenta— una música que le ha brindado fama mundial a la plaza en la que la Casa del Mariachi se encuentra ubicada.

    On Monday, July 18, 2011, mariachi musicians and local community members gathered in Mexico City’s Plaza Garibaldi to protest the opening of a music school called Casa del Mariachi. Among other concerns, protesters claim this new school blatantly undervalues the music whose name it bears — the very music that has brought worldwide fame to the plaza in which the school is located.

    Jose "Pepe" Martinez Sr. sat down with Mariachimusic.com to talk about the new upcoming Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán cds and Mariachi Vargas' upcoming concerts in Paris. First, the newest cd, Sinfonico No. 3, with the Philharmonic Orchestra from the state of Queretaro, is lively and romantic. Mariachi Vargas is also working on recording another new cd which they hope to release at the Mariachi Encuentro Internacional in Guadalajara in September. Mariachi Vargas will be recording a live cd with the Houston Grand Opera in Paris, France during a performance of the six performances of first mariachi opera Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, September 23-27, 2011 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
